Pain is such a common experience yet so incredibly personal. No one’s treatment plan looks exactly the same. Teaching is such a large part of what I do when discussing with patients about their pain and treatment plans; seeing the stress melt off the faces of families when they finally have answers to their longstanding problems is one of the joys of my role. I am excited to work with Verywell on articles that will clarify the issues and foster hope on the issues families are facing.
Education
Elisha Peterson MD is a triple board-certified, Harvard-trained pain medicine physician with a background in anesthesiology. She currently serves at the director of the chronic pain clinic at Children’s National Hospital and is a frequent contributor of the Children’s National parent blog educating parents on chronic pain in children.
She has been a regular invited speaker at theAmerican Society of Anesthesiologynational meeting for the past three years and a regular contributor to theSociety of Pediatric Pain Medicinemeeting since 2016. Besides parents and patients, she enjoys teaching medical students, residents, and fellows about pain medicine and anesthesiology. She is an associate program director for the inaugural pain fellowship in partnership with George Washington. Dr. Peterson has published in peer-reviewed journals and authored book chapters. She has been invited to lecture locally and nationally on pediatric pain medicine and racial disparities. Dr. Peterson lives with her husband and 3 children in Washington DC.
