Experience

Originally a classical composer and songwriter, Mikhal has been writing about the intersections of fertility, LGBTQIA+ rights, personal finance, and more since 2016.

Mikhal began as a writer for GO! Magazine, reporting on local news for the New York gay community. Since then, she has expanded the scope of her writing vastly. As a reporter for Zenger News and Courier Newsroom, she reported on hospital shortages and scams that proliferated during the pandemic. Her exposé on the sourcing of alternative "meat" products was syndicated by Newsweek.

Since becoming a mother in 2019, Mikhal has been writing personal essays about her experiences with parenthood and postpartum anxiety for local and national publications like Motherfigure and Parents. As a writer for Parents and Health, she has also explored how personal finance intersects with parenting and mental health, especially for LGBTQIA+ families. During this time, Mikhal also wrote about personal finance and how it informs topics like climate change, fertility, and food justice for Better Homes & Gardens and Real Simple.

Throughout her journey as a writer, Mikhal has maintained a connection between her written work and her musicianship. As a music reviewer for The Wild Honey Pie and Urban Flaiire, she has written over 60 reviews of new releases by both established and indie artists. For GO! Magazine, she had the pleasure of profiling Amy Ray of the Indigo Girls. She also continues to connect her work and her Judaism, by publishing a weekly blog about the biblical text and writing Op-Eds for local and national Jewish publications.

Education

Mikhal attended Berklee College of Music in Boston, where she graduated in 2014 with honors. She holds a B.Mus, with a major in composition and a minor in conducting.
